Tom Baker is a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia Standing Committee. He’s also a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Richmond. And he is a hypocrite, a liar, and a fraud. And did I mention asshat?
How so? I recently set an email to him and other so-called leaders in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia discussing my experiences with non-sexual abuse in the diocese. This includes perjuring priest Bob Malm’s various lies, his perjury, and his efforts to bully my mother, who was dying of COPD.
I also shared the diocese’s dishonest and unethical response, which was to completely brush off my complaint in violation of church canons. And I talked about the results, including my PTSD and depression that arose due to this abuse. I also talked about the sexual harassment of a female church worker, a friend of mine, and the diocese’s refusal to care for her. That, even as the priest in question continues in good standing.
Baker’s response? Here it is:
Yet this is a man who stands up on Sunday, recites the Baptismal Covenant, with its promise to “respect the dignity of every human being,” and sees no problem with brushing off allegations of abuse. A man Who is prepared to say perjury is okay. A man who is prepared to say that he’s good with the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia ignoring its own canons. A man who does these things even as he bloviates about working for peace and justice. Not to mention Susan Goff’s “healing across differences.”
Even better, this hypocrite grew up with a father as a priest. And this clueless jackass is serving on the standing committee?
It’s small wonder that people are turning their backs on the toxic and disgraceful Episcopal Church. The arrogance and lack of an ethical perspective are absolutely overwhelming.
And to Tom Baker, I say this, “If this is your idea of Christianity, no thanks, you can keep it. Go hang out with Christine Love Mendoza and the other asshats of the diocese. You are one sorry excuse for a human being.”
